you would go to Heaven?
Here is what the Bible has to say:
1. Realize you are a sinner.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23
Our sin separates us from God. A sin is anything that is morally wrong, or anything that we have done that would be against God’s will. Lying, stealing, cheating and thinking evil thoughts are all examples of sin.
The Bible says that “all have sinned.” While there are many kind and good people in this world, according to the Bible, they are all still sinners because at some point in their lives they all have done something morally wrong.
2. Realize you can’t save yourself.
“For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:26a
Unfortunately, because our sin separates us from Almighty God and causes us to fall short of His perfect glory this means that the punishment that we deserve is death. This is not the same thing as physical death, like when a pet dies but it is a spiritual death or “the second death.”
“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” Revelation 20:14
All who go to the lake of fire, “shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever,” Revelation 20:10
Our righteous actions will not help us to escape this eternal death because our righteousness will never amount to a perfect and holy God. The good news is that God does not want you to go to hell so He has already made a way for you to go to Heaven.
3. Know that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
Two times God calls eternal life a “gift.” A gift by definition is something is something that one person transfers to another without receiving anything in return. If someone bought you a new car for your birthday but then told you to pay them back in payments of $100 per month until the car is paid off then that would not be considered a gift. However, if somebody bought you a car and then gave it to you completely free of any payments then that would be a gift, and a great gift at that!
If eternal life is a gift, which according to God’s Word it is, then that means it must be free for you. You cannot receive this free gift of eternal life through your works. This means that going to church, reading the Bible, praying, being a nice person or never robbing a bank will not give you entrance into Heaven. These things would all be considered works. Anything outside of Jesus Christ dying on the cross would be considered works. So then how do you go to Heaven?
4. Simply accept the free gift of eternal life and trust Jesus as your Saviour today.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the death, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
The Bible says that if whosoever calls upon the Lord and asks to be saved then they SHALL be saved. That whosoever includes you, me and anybody else that you can think of. When Jesus died on the cross he paid for EVERYBODY’S sins and when He rose again He proved that He has power over death. That is why to receive the FREE gift of eternal life in Heaven all you have to do is simply accept Jesus as your Saviour; He was the only One who had the ability to pay for the price of our sin so that Heaven could be a gift for us.
“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2
Later down the road in life you need to have a day that you can look back and say, “That was the day that I trusted Jesus. That was the day I got saved.” Do not wait to accept Jesus as your personal Saviour. Make today the day of your salvation; God says NOW is the time. Don’t wait another day, you don’t know for sure if you have that.
1. We are all sinners.
2. We deserve death in Hell because of our sin.
3. Jesus paid the price so we do not have to go to Hell.
4. Simply trust Jesus and depend on Him alone for your eternal salvation.
Sound simple enough? If it is your heart’s desire to put your faith and trust in Christ and Christ alone for your salvation from death in hell…
Just pray something like this and mean it from your heart:
“Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross and paying for my sin.
The best I know how I trust you as my Saviour.
Thank you for saving me from hell and giving me eternal life.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”
*Note: It is not a prayer that saves. It is your faith in Jesus that saves. This prayer is only meant as a guide to help you.
